Research Fellow for Cyber-physical advances

Alison Halford

Dr Alison Halford is an Assistant Professor (Research) and Impact Lead at the Centre for Computational Science and Mathematical Modelling (CSM). Her research emphasises meaningful participation informed by an ethics of care to give voice to those traditionally excluded from public engagement and positions of authority. As a feminist scholar, her work draws upon intersectionality to identify and address to what extent AI design and practices can reproduce or challenge systems of oppression, discrimination, and structural inequality. For EnergyREV Alison brought to WP1.1 the experience of responsible innovation that strives for ethical, transparent and sustainable protocols when developing cyber-physical systems. She also had a role in translating research findings into real-life contexts to improve stakeholder understanding of cyber-physical advances and increase the deployment of AI and intelligence in Smart Local Energy Systems.
