Callum joined PNDC, an established whole energy systems research, test and demonstration environment across multiple locations, in May 2022 as a Senior R&D Engineer on the Whole Energy Systems team. His specific area of focus is low carbon heat – a real hot topic at present (no pun intended!) and an absolutely crucial aspect of the net zero transition. He is also involved in a number of other projects which focus on multi-vector integration and hydrogen. He spent the previous three years at Heriot-Watt University’s Research Centre for Carbon Solutions, having worked in industry on energy systems modelling and design. His PhD from Strathclyde University on variable energy pricing in stand-alone energy systems led to a Knowledge Transfer Partnership on the development of a high-resolution energy systems modelling technique, later used in the design of the on-site Energy Centre at the P&J Live events complex. Within EnergyREV Callum’s research looked at the scale-up of SLES and the multi-disciplinary analysis of examples of SLES in the UK. This included in-depth SLES case studies to develop insights from the knowledge and experience accrued by practitioners.
